RYA Powerboat Intermediate course

The 2 day RYA Intermediate Powerboat Course provides the skills and background knowledge needed to drive a powerboat for longer distances. If you've always stayed relatively close to 'home' this course will give you the skills and confidence to carry out more adventurous coastal passages. 

Pre-requisites

Minimum age: 16

Prior knowledge: A level of practical boat handling skills and theory equivalent to the powerboat level 2 course.

  • Navigation, bearings & distance, charts & symbols
  • Tides
  • Use of almanacs
  • Use of marina locks
  • Principals of GPS/ Chart plotters
  • Meterology
  • Waypoint navigation
  • Emergency situations
  • Boat preparation
  • Boat handling to a higher level including effect of waves, rougher conditions, handling in wind/tide
  • Pilotage, passage making practical application
  • Man overboard recovery techniques
