RYA Powerboat Course joining information:

POST COVID-19 LOCKDOWN


School Boat Tuition:

Location: Port of Poole Marina, Poole BH15 4AJ



Course timings: 

RYA Powerboat Level 1 or Level 2  =  09:30 - 17:00 / 17:30 each day 

RYA Powerboat Level 1 or Level 2 = Winter course timings (Oct - Feb) = 09:00 - 16:00/16:30 each day

 

Prior to the course: 

  • Each student to Complete eMedical declaration form - SEE RED TAB BELOW

What to bring: 

  • Passport sized photo (45mm x 35mm / HxW)) with your name printed on the reverse (Powerboat Level 2 ONLY)
  • Packed lunch / drinks
  • Summer: Warm jumper, Jacket, sunglasses, suncream, cap, soft soled shoes (i.e. trainers)
  • Winter: warm clothing, Jacket, including a hat, gloves, soft soled shoes (i.e. trainers/boots) 
  • Hand Sanitiser
  • Face Covering
  • Waterproofs / Wet weather gear - rain coat & waterproof trousers if you have them, we will be unable to provide these items during this time (COVID). Regardless of how sunny it is, it is generally much cooler afloat + we can't stop all the sea spray.. 

 


Additional considerations during covid-19

BEFORE:

  • DO NOT attend training if you develop COVID-19 symptoms or live with someone who has
  • DO NOT attend training if you are vulnerable, at risk or advised to shield
  • DO NOT take public transport where possible

ASHORE: 

  • DO maintain social distancing (1m+) 
  • DO carry out additional hygiene measures
  • DO be understanding of your instructors requests to maintain COVID safety
  • DO expect to complete theory sessions outside (i.e. dress appropriately)
  • DO consider 1st whether you need to touch i.e. door handles etc

TOILET / FACILITIES: 

  • DO wash your hands before you leave 
  • DO be aware the toilet area will NOT be cleaned between each use 

AFLOAT: 

  • DO listen to your instructors requests on seating & moving around the powerboat & pontoon / marina areas
  • DO wear a face covering when unable to maintain 1m+ distance 
  • DO use hand sanitiser regularly, particularly before touching the powerboat controls 
  • DO be conscientious about not touching your face & during a cough/sneeze do so into your elbow. 

END OF DAY: 

  • DO dispose of PPE responsibly
  • DO return any kit you have borrowed to your instructor ready for cleaning / disinfection

WHAT WE WILL DO: 

  • Loan you a lifejacket 
  • Provide alcohol hand sanitiser if you do not have you own 
  • Clean & sanitise kit & key touch points prior to your arrival 

Shorebased sessions during covid-19

Theory / shorebased sessions will be completed outside our portakabin maintaining 1m+ distancing. Should the weather not allow this (i.e. heavy rain) then shorebased sessions will be run online via Zoom with a member of our training team.

DAY 1: Personal equipment and buoyancy, Introduction to the boat & equipment, familiarisation, holding off, picking up a mooring, man overboard recovery, marina work

 

RYA Powerboat Level 2

DAY 1 : Personal equipment and buoyancy, Introduction to the boat & equipment, familiarisation, holding off, picking up a mooring, man overboard recovery, turning in a confined space, marina work

DAY 2: Pilotage/passage planning, Anchoring, Rules of the road, Emergency actions, Planing speed
