RYA First aid certificate updates & extensions during covid-19 period:

RYA First Aid Certificate Extensions (for those who are NOT RYA Instructors):

RYA First Aid certificates which expire after 01 March 2020 are deemed to be valid until 30 September 2020 as detailed in the Letter of Extension at this link: https://www.rya.org.uk/SiteCollectionDocuments/training/Web Documents/RYA Training/Professional qualifications/Letter_of_Extension.pdf.

RYA First Aid certificates may be extended by one year from their expiry date following a short update delivered by an RYA recognised First Aid training centre (see below). We do however encourage you to complete a full first aid course at the earliest opportunity.

RYA First aid certificate updates for RYA instructors & those that wish to refresh their knowledge:

Where an RYA Instructor certificate requires an in-date First Aid certificate in order to remain valid, the RYA will accept a one-year extension on any suitable First Aid certificate, provided a short update is delivered by an RYA First Aid Centre, or the original issuing centre. This update may be delivered via video conferencing. Instructors should make every effort to fully update their First Aid qualification at the earliest opportunity to maintain a sufficient level of duty of care to students and to alleviate pressure on those who are being relied upon as full first aiders.

As a temporary measure the RYA have allowed instructors to extend their RYA first aid certificate by one year from the expiry date following a short update with an RYA First Aid centre. The RYA will also accept other suitable First Aid certificates, provided an update has been conducted by either the original provider or an RYA First Aid centre.

This update will be conducted via Zoom webinar with one of our RYA First Aid Instructors. Each student will be issued with a statement by us, confirming the update completion and the extension of one year from the stated expiry date, which you should keep with your First Aid certificate.

The update will cover:

  • Primary survey of a casualty and scene
  • Management of unresponsive casualty who is breathing normally
  • Management of an unresponsive casualty who is not breathing normally: Including the latest ResusUK advice concerning conducting CPR during the COVID-Pandemic
  • Managing bleeding
  • Recognising and managing shock
  • Near drowning

Duration: 2 hours

Update fee: £20.00

What you need:

In order to join a Zoom webinar you will need to have access to the internet and a web enabled device, you DO NOT need to join 'Zoom' in order to do this, you will be emailed a link in order to join the webinar.
