The RYA Powerboat Level 2 Direct Assessment is a 0.5 day assessment or 0.5 day training (to brush up your existing skills) + 0.5 day assessment allowing you to gain your RYA Powerboat Level 2 Certificate and is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence (I.C.C.).
If you have previous powerboat handling experience and want to gain your RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate then this is the one for you!
Previous Experience: Powerboat handling experience and background knowledge
Minimum Age (school boat): 14 years (those aged between 14-15 years will receive an endorsed certificate)
Minimum Age (own boat): 12 years (those aged between 12-15 years will receive an endorsed certificate).
Our main training boat is probably the bit that stands out as much as our incredible RYA instructors. We don't run our RYA Powerboat Level 2 assessments on a standard RIB, but rather on a gorgeous Boston Whaler which makes for a training experience that will prepare you better for your future boating. If you are planning on hiring/buying a boat that chances of your boating taking place on sports boats and day cruisers is far more likely than on a RIB, so why not progress your skills on a boat that is more relevant to your future boating?

This is one of the unique parts of Marine Education, we train you on a powerboat that will prepare you for not just the 'now' but the future of your boating!
Sadly the majority of people who attend Powerboat level 2 courses and assessments across the world do not take any further training, therefore ensuring that you are safe, comfortable and confident to handle almost any type of powerboat is our aim, which is why we have opted for a larger sportsboat as our training vessel. During you assessment you will operate the boat under both single and twin engines to get used to the techniques and advantages of each and best prepare you for your boating future. In addition the 'larger than average' school boat size will prepare you for (almost) whatever your future holds whether that be purchase, renting/chartering, driving a friends boat or working on a boat without being intimidated about the size or engine configuration.
Our Instructors: We have a team of the most highly qualified and experienced RYA instructors you can come by - check out their qualifications (and smiley faces) here! Our Principal has 20 years of RYA teaching experience and therefore keeps a close eye to ensure RYA best practice is always maintained so you get the best learning experience possible.
Our Location: Poole Harbour is one of the most beautiful areas in the U.K, there aren't many places in the world where you can go from calm serenity of the western end of the harbour, to the heavily traffic of the port area, National Trust nature reserves, the award winning beaches of Sandbanks / Studland Bay and iconic Old Harry Rocks on the Jurassic Coast in one day! Putting that aside we also have mind-blowing learning opportunities by having nearly every type of buoy, a variety of marinas to practice our close quarter handling (whilst checking out the beautiful new build Sunseekers) along with sheltered areas down Wareham River and behind Brownsea Island. There is a reason why both the RNLI college and Royal Marines base themselves here...
Value for Money: If you're looking for the cheapest course available, then we are not the school for you. We pride ourselves on offering competitive course prices for the highest standard of training and use of some of the best equipment available for training. We have never been rated as 'average' in any of our Feedback which speaks volumes about our level of service, tuition, craft and equipment
