Course Aim

The Short Range Certificate is the minimum qualification required by law to control the operation of VHF and DSC equipment on any British flagged vessel voluntarily fitted with a radio. This includes both fixed and handheld sets.

The Process: 

Step 1) Sign up / purchase online RYA VHF/SRC Course (below)

Step 2) Complete online course & download certificate 

Step 3) Sign up for SRC 'face to face' exam - See here

Step 4) Pay RYA VHF/SRC Exam fee (£70.00) - See here

Step 5) On passing your exam your application form will be sent to the RYA

Step 6) RYA HQ will post your RYA VHF/SRC Certificate directly to you. 



What's Involved?

This course can be taken as an online course (or as a classroom course), however one of our RYA instructor's is on hand to provide as much support as you require, this is done predominately by email, but we can also offer Skype/Zoom chats at pre-arranged times. 

 

The Course Covers:

  • Basic radio operation
  • Correct frequencies (channels) to be used
  • Distress, emergency and medical assistance procedures
  • Ship to shore calls
  • Digital Selective calling (DSC) using simulators
  • Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS)
  • Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB)
  • Search and Rescue (SART)

 

Course Duration: 4-8 hours (online)         

The course access will expire after a period of 6 months from sign-up.

PLEASE NOTE:  When you book this course we need to MANUALLY set you up on the RYA Interactive system. This is the same for ALL RYA schools. We will set you up by close of play the next working day. We apologise for this delay but this is a RYA requirement and not down to us. :)
